Yesterday April 14th we learned about linear equations and to create tables of values. Mr. Backe also told us about www.mathplayground.com and play some Math games.

He introduced Chapter 6 with some new words:
linear relation-A relation that appears as a straight line when graphed.
linear equation-An equation whose graph is a straight line.
interpolate-To estimate the value between two given values.
extrapolate-To find values that is not given

Tables of Values and linear equations
First thing to remember is that x is always the independent and y is the dependent.
Here's an example of a table of values in our class
To get the linear equation you have find the difference in each number in the y column. In this table it is 3, because it adds 3 in each row in the y column. And why -2, here's an example:

Math class today was pretty simple. We just went over our test, got homework and went over some definition words for Chapter 7.

These are Today's notes:(with pictures)

Monomial ----> give three examples using variables for at least two.
3x, -4t, 7s,

Binomial ----> give three examples with a constant.
4x+19, 4x + 13x2, 3x - 2y

Polynomial ----> an algebraic expression with four or more terms.
Ex: -4x2 + 4x + 3y + 4

Distributive property:
a (x+y) = ax + ay
a (x-y) = ax - ay
-a (x+y) = -ax - ay
-a (x-y) = -ax - ay

Hey guys, so today in math we had a test review so in this scribe im going to talk about what will be on the test.

First off lets name the parts in this number.

So 7 is the Numerical Co-Efficient
The X is the Varible
The 2 is the exponent
and the constant is -9, when your talking about constants you have to put the whole thing.

Alright now its time to learn aboot LIKE TERMS!!

Like terms are 2 or more numbers that go together. The reason they go together is because they have the same variable and the same degree. Lets try an example shall we?

Which Numbers are Like Terms?

7x + 5y + 9xy + 4y

The like terms are 5y and 4y because they have the same variable which is "Y" and the same degree which is 1.

Now lets do a question like one we'll probably get on the test.

(7x + 4y + 8) - (3 + 6x -8y)

The first step we have to do is remove the brackets, now you think it would be

7x + 4y +8 -3 +6x -8y but you would be wrong if you thought that the correct answer is:

7x + 4y + 8 -3 -6x +8y. That is the correct way to write it, the reason you write it like that is because the symbol seperating the brackets is a "-" symbol so you have to change each number to its Additive Inverse.

An additive inverse is the opposite of a number. For example the additive inverse of
-1 would be 1 heres some more examples:
-6xy +6xy
7x-7x
-9y + 9y

Those are all additive inverses

Hewoo people of earth today I'm going to talk about what we did in math today.

Well the student teacher person went over LIKE TERMS. So these are some information on like terms.

They must have the same VARIABLE and DEGREE.
They can be grouped.
They can be +,-,x,÷

We also used algebra tiles to figure some of these questions out.

Example:

For this question we would have to find all the like terms. In other words put all the "ANIMALS" together.

This is when all of the " ANIMALS " .

For this step we had to put the animals together again and rearrange it. We have to use like terms to rearrange. ( look for the variables and the one that has the greatest degree).

Today in Math we watched a video about Scale factor, Similarity, and Proportions. Here is the link for the video: Scale factor, Similarity, and Proportions are related concepts2

Now I will try to explain what I learned from the video, because its kinda hard to understand. As said in the video: Similar Figures have corresponding angles that are congruent and their corresponding sides are proportional. Corresponding means that the angles are matching and congruent means equal.

This polygons are equal, but how do you know if it is equal. First you need to get the scale factor of the polygons.

The first one is dividing the scale factors from the sides of the two polygons. If the answer is the same it means that the sides are equal.

The second way is multiplying the scale factors. You can multiply the scale factors any way you want, the answer would always be the same.

My post today is short, but I will try to update whenever I can. The next scribe is MARK ABAYA.

Today in mathematics we got our stash its and journals back which was quite the horror and also our term marks which wasnt very pleasant either. But after the horrid stuff we got down to business with triangles and what not. This is what we've talked about this class:

Triangles vocabulary:
1.Scalene triangle - A triangle with no two sides of equal length.

This is a scalene triangle

3.Isosceles triangle - A triangle with two equal sides.

This is a Isosceles triangle

4.Equilateral triangle - A triangle has three sides, each one the same length. The three angles are also of equal measure.

This is an equilateral triangle

5.Acute triangle - A triangle whose interior angles are all acute (less than 90 degrees)

This is an Acute triangle

6.Obtuse triangle - A triangle that contains an obtuse interior angle.

This is an Obtuse triangle.

7.Equiangular triangle - A triangle in which each interior angle is identical, and each one will measure 60 degrees.

This is an Equiangular triangle.

8.Right-angle triangle - A right-angle triangle or a R.A.T. is a triangle with one right angle.

This is a Right-angle Triangle or a R.A.T.

Those are all the Vocabulary words from friday that we've talked about today. then after all that we then went to work on reviewing our triangle work last friday such as the formulas and how to figure out a side of a triangle and many more.

Okay. I don't really know who is the scribe for today so i'm just going to do it myself. Mr.B is the scribe posts for marks?? :)

Okay. anywho in class today we talked about ENLARGMENT and REDUCTION.

So can anyone guess what Enlargment? . never mind. you can't answer that.

Anywho! Enlargment is to make something bigger, propotionally, everything has to be enlarged by the same scale factor. Enlargement always has a scale factor of >1

For example:

In order to do that we have to find what the scale factor is.
The scale factor is 1.5.

2 x 1.5 = ....

Hmm lets think. oh wait it equals to 3

So the scale factor would be 1.5 and this is a diagram to show that.

Example 2 :

and that's what Enlargement do.

Now to the next one.

REDUCTION

Reduction is to make a scale smaller, proportionally everything has to be reduced by the same scale factor. A reduction always has a factor between o and <1.

Sorry i don't have any example for this one. :(

Anywho.! Mr. B also said that we have a test tommorow and its on 4.1 and 4.2 and we also need to know what scale and scale factor means.

Okay so, today we began our math class by making corrections to our chapter 3 test. After that, Mr. Backé handed out worksheets to us about scales and scale factors, Mr. Backé also handed out worksheets for chapter 4. Mr. Backé told us to copy out the definition for scale and scale factor out of our textbook.

Scale: A comparison between the actual size of an object and the size of it's image. This can be expressed as a ratio, as a fraction, as a percent, in words, or in a diagram. For example, a scale of 1cm: 50km on a map means that 1cm on the map represents 50km.

Scale Factor: The constant factor by which all dimensions of an object are enlarged or reduced in a scale drawing.

Yesterday, no one post the scribe, so lets talked a little bit about that :).

So the things we did yesterday was to write the "Keyideas" on page 67 in our own words.
And we also answered the "Communicate the Ideas" on page 67 and 68.

Now, lets talked about the things we did today.

On thursday for math we did two different things. First we did some multiplying and dividing fractions which is new.

So in order to do this we have to find the reciprocal

And now i'm going to talk about DIVIDING Fractions.

After we find the Reciprocal we have to multiply the question then wil get the answer.

Then we divide the reciprocal by 1.

Then we have to multiply it so we can get the answer.

And that is how you do DIVIDING FRACTIONS.

Today In Math Class We Learned , When Adding and subtracting fractions , To do so you have to find a common denominator If Necessary . Add And subtract Numerators denominators Have to be The Same The Simplify .

This is one of the QUESTIONS we did.

Usually we would find COMMON DENOMINATOR but for this question we don't have to because they are both the same.

Anyways after we have to find the EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS. We don't have to find the equivalent fraction for this one because we didn't have to find the denominators.

Then we have to REWRITE THE QUESTION . Then we answer the question.

That was an example of ADDING NEGATIVE FRACETIONS.

the number ten was the one that seemed more difficult, but here is the solution for you =):

First we need to find the denominator....and that is 60!
and as second we need to calculate the numerator and that will be:

77/60=17/60 and thats the answer!

Hey guys today in class we talked about adding proper fractions. So how do we add proper fractions? I'll show you how step by step.

3/4 + 1/6

Step 1: Find a common denominator. The common denominator is 12. For those who doesn't know how to find the it, I will show you how.
Okay, so that is how you can find the common denominator.

Step 2: Find equivalent fractions.
Step 3: Rewrite the question. Now you have the same denominator you can answer it.

Step 4: Answer and simplify if possible.

So that's it. The answer is 11/12. It is already simplified. Note: When you add or subtract fractions, you only add or subtract the numerators.

Answer these questions Mr. B gave us:

1) 3/8 + 3/4

2) 1/6 + 1/4

3) 1/5 + 1/3

4) 3/10 + 3/4

Today we went to the computer lab to learn more about fraction at nlvm.usu.edu
First got to Number and Operations (Grade 9-12)and then to Fractions-adding

This is somehow it is look like. What we need to do here is to find out the sum of the fractions shown. First you should rename the fractions 1/7 and 1/2 so their denominators would be the same.

Now the denominators are the same you can now add the fractions.

When adding fractions with different denominators you should rename it with its equivalent fraction to make the denominator the same.

After that we went to lumosity.com, created accounts then played some games about math.

After we leave Mr. Backe told us a homework which Show You Know in chapter 2.3.

Hello everyone.Today in class we talked about Jayden's number line post and we talked about Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing integers.We had to talk about Jayden's number line because the fractions were at the wrong place.

Here is an example of Jayden's picture:

Mr.B told us to talk to our tables and see what's wrong with it.I asked Renz P what's wrong with it and he said that -2/9 should be closer to zero and -4/7 should be after -2/9 i asked him why and he said becuase -2/9 is 0.2 and -4/7 is 0.5 so -2/9 should be closer to zero.

Hey Guys, Today in class we played a fraction game using cards. The red cards were represented positive numbers, and the black cards represented negitive numbers. So in order to play the game you need 2 cards and put them in a fraction (the cards were handed out randomly) after that you have to put your number on the number line and whoever was closest to 0 on the number line would get 2 points.

Example:

Jim's fraction is -2/9 and Bob's fraction is -4/7.

Who do you think is closer to zero?...

-2/9 is closer because if u find it's decimal value it is: -0.22(repeating)

-4/7 decimal value is: -0.57.

Where is the Half point for 2/3?

Homework for tonight is: 3 questions that ask you to compare the fractions using the denominator. The fractions that you have to compare are

1/2 and 1/3

1/5 and 2/4

2/3 and2/4

Besides that we also have section 2.1 Math Link (the worksheet Mr.B gave us)

Today is October 26 2009 and its almost Halloween in four days (: but lets get back to math . To refresh our memories we are learning about Natural Numbers, Integers, Whole Numbers, Counting Number, Rational Number, Irrational Numbers, Real Numbers. We didn't really knew them, well some of them, and we got to make examples and Non-Examples. Oh and if i need corrections just comment and ill make the change(:

In our math links 9 book we had homework for 2.1 Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers. So I'm just going to pick some of the questions in the book.

3. Match each rational number to a point on the number line.

a) I put -0.6 in the C point because its in the negative side of the time line with all the other negative.

b) I put negative three fourths on the B point because the -3 fourths is on the negative side of the number line and its the closes to -3

c) I put the negative two three fourths on the A point because it's on the negative side and it's between the negative three and negative two. Its close to negative two

d) I put the number 1.9 on the E Point because it's on the positive side and its to 2 because its 1.9
so the 9 is closer to the next number that is two .

e) I put the 0.3 in the D point because it is closes to the 0 and a little bit away from it .

Mathematics Homework

This is the list for the task in #11:

Building garages:

you would need to use surface area for building garages. Because you would need to calculate the surface area of the place your building the garage into and make it so it fits the specifications of the owner and still fit the required and available space.

Ice Cubes:

you would need to use surface area for making ice cubes. If an artist would be making somethning out of ice cubes he would need to calculate the surface area of the size of the ice cube that he needs and to check if the artist's design will fit into the designated surface area that he calculated.

House designs:

you would need the surface area if you are calculating the amount of space a house would take up in a neighborhood according to the lot size. If that is the case then you would need surface area to help give you an idea of how big the house should be.

Park designs:

if you are an architecht and you are building a park with a size limit you will need the surface area for the park according to length and width to meet the specifications.

Ok, scribe post. Today in class we did some more work with surface area. For homework yesterday we had to cut out a cube and find the formula for the surface area of it. So in class we decided that the formula for a 3 by 3 by 3 Cube was

My PC just froze so I switched to my brothers Mac and it doesn't have paint so this is the best I can do. This is my way of doing it.

S.A = 6s squared
S.A = (6) (9u squared)
S.A = 54u squared

Anyway the Homework for today was to make a net for a rectangular prism that is
4u x 3u x 2u and to figure out it's surface area.

Today in math class we learned about surface area and planes of symmetry.

We Learned that a rectangular prism has 3 planes of symmetry and that a cube has 5 plane of symmetry. We also learned that a plane of symmetry is like a line of symmety that cuts a 3D shape in half.

Another thing we learned about was surface area. Surface area is the sum of the areas of all the faces. We learned that the formula for the surface area of a rectangular prism is SA=2(lh)+2(lw)+2(wh) and the formula for the surface area of a cube SA=6s(squared).

For homework we had to find the surface area of the cube we made in class.

Today in math we didn't do much but we did do the Math test. It wasnt that hard but its not that easy either because of the part where you have to be very specific. but all in all it was and okay test.

Today in class we went to nlvm.usu.edu.
To Learn about Geometry , We were learning about Transformations - Composition, Transformations - Reflection, Transformations - Rotation, Transformations - Translation.

What I learned was Inverse of transformations. And also about The Efficiency. And How to transform things in composition .

In Reflection I learned that The same picture is equal distant from a line of reflection.And that Segments joining corresponding sides of an object and image are perpendicular to the reflection line. corresponding angles and sides are congruent. Rotaions About the Orgins include

half turn clockwise or half turn counterclockwise .

In rotation i learned that is is It is important to understand the frame of reference . a coordinate rotation can be defined by three Eular anlges, or by a single angle of rotation and the direction of a vector about which to rotate. And also that rotation in 2 dimensions is commutative, unlike in higher dimensions.coordinate rotation which rotates the time axis is called a boost

In Translation I learned Original objects continue to be dynamically translated, The first original is visually connected to its image by the translation vector. When another object is placed on the workspace, its translated, When you first started Graphing Quadrants, you started with the basic quadratic, A function transformation takes whatever is the basic function f(x) and then "transforms" it or "translates" it, which is a fancy way of saying that you change the formula a bit and thereby move the graph around..
