Hey Guys, Today in class we played a fraction game using cards. The red cards were represented positive numbers, and the black cards represented negitive numbers. So in order to play the game you need 2 cards and put them in a fraction (the cards were handed out randomly) after that you have to put your number on the number line and whoever was closest to 0 on the number line would get 2 points.







Example:




Jim's fraction is -2/9 and Bob's fraction is -4/7.

Who do you think is closer to zero?...

-2/9 is closer because if u find it's decimal value it is: -0.22(repeating)

-4/7 decimal value is: -0.57.





Where is the Half point for 2/3?



Homework for tonight is: 3 questions that ask you to compare the fractions using the denominator. The fractions that you have to compare are



1/2 and 1/3

1/5 and 2/4

2/3 and2/4



Besides that we also have section 2.1 Math Link (the worksheet Mr.B gave us)



Well I have said what we did in class so I guess that means I am done my scribe.

For the next scribe I am not going to choose another guy because it has been only guys that have been doing scribes...Next is Nichole! Good Luck

I'm suppose to do my scribe yesterday but I didnt because i didnt get any invites from
Mr.Backey.I forgot what we all did in Math on Tuesday so I'm just going to show some picture

hey 9-06 sorry this late but this is the scribe for last thursday i'm just going to talk about what we did in class.To be honest i'm not to sure what we did class because i was distracted but the people walking in and out and goofing off didnt help either.
There was so much going on so i think we where just going over some of the things that we did last class , and how to do a question invovling:

Today is October 26 2009 and its almost Halloween in four days (: but lets get back to math . To refresh our memories we are learning about Natural Numbers, Integers, Whole Numbers, Counting Number, Rational Number, Irrational Numbers, Real Numbers. We didn't really knew them, well some of them, and we got to make examples and Non-Examples. Oh and if i need corrections just comment and ill make the change(:

In our math links 9 book we had homework for 2.1 Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers. So I'm just going to pick some of the questions in the book.


Check Your Understanding
3. Match each rational number to a point on the number line.


a) I put -0.6 in the C point because its in the negative side of the time line with all the other negative.

b) I put negative three fourths on the B point because the -3 fourths is on the negative side of the number line and its the closes to -3

c) I put the negative two three fourths on the A point because it's on the negative side and it's between the negative three and negative two. Its close to negative two

d) I put the number 1.9 on the E Point because it's on the positive side and its to 2 because its 1.9
so the 9 is closer to the next number that is two .

e) I put the 0.3 in the D point because it is closes to the 0 and a little bit away from it .


Check Your Understanding
5. What is the Opposite of each rational number ?



For question 5 you have to find the opposite of a) b) c) . A) is positive three over 2 and the opposite is negative three over two. B) is negative six decimal eight and the opposite of the number is positive six decimal eight. C) is negative two over one fifth is the opposite to two over one fifth.
If the number is positive then the opposite of the number is negative, if the number is negative then the opposite of it is positive.


Well that's it for me, well its time for me to go to do other math homeworks for Mr.Backe haha . So I hope this scribe helped you guys alot on what we did for homework . Oh yeah and if i made ALOT of mistakes just comment and ill just learn for my mistakes haha. Well i think i did this scribe wrong because i was suppose to make the scribe on what was our homework for TODAY but whatever, no one scribed this so i guess i should scribe on this since im already done this.

Ok Guys this is what we have been doing in math class for the last two days... We have been doing Foldables about all the different kinds of numbers(I didn't know that there were different kinds of numbers I thought they were all the same HAHA)

So here are the different definitions...

Natural Numbers and Counting Numbers
- The numbers that are used to count "Things".
Examples: 1,2,3,4,5... Non-Examples: 0,-1,1.25,1.5


Whole Numbers
- All Natural Numbers AND zero.
Examples: 0,1,2,3,4,5 Non-Examples: 0.5,50%,1/2,1.1

Integers
- All Whole Numbers and their oppesites.
Examples: ...-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5... Non-Examples:

Rationals Rational Numbers
- Any number that can be expressed as a QUOTIENT of two INTEGERS with a denominator not equal to zero.
Any number that can be written as a simple fraction.
Examples: 1/3, 2/5... Non-Examples: 5/0, 2/0, 4/0...

Irational Numbers
- Any number that cannot be written as a simple fraction.
Examples: 3.141, 5/0... Non-Examples: 5/0,?...

Real Numbers
- Includes all numbers that are Natural, Whole, Integer, Rational and Irational
Examples: Everything next to the word Examples that you see above
Non-Examples: See Irational Non-Examples

OK guys today in class we corrected our math tests and i dont know about about any of you but personally I did well....terrible, but anyways on with the corrections!

Mathematics Homework


This is the list for the task in #11:

Building garages:

you would need to use surface area for building garages. Because you would need to calculate the surface area of the place your building the garage into and make it so it fits the specifications of the owner and still fit the required and available space.









Ice Cubes:

you would need to use surface area for making ice cubes. If an artist would be making somethning out of ice cubes he would need to calculate the surface area of the size of the ice cube that he needs and to check if the artist's design will fit into the designated surface area that he calculated.










House designs:

you would need the surface area if you are calculating the amount of space a house would take up in a neighborhood according to the lot size. If that is the case then you would need surface area to help give you an idea of how big the house should be.








Park designs:

if you are an architecht and you are building a park with a size limit you will need the surface area for the park according to length and width to meet the specifications.

Hi! Last friday at math class Mr. Backé reviewd us about the cylinders and he also thaught us the formula of the cylinder. I'm gonna show you the formula and some examples of cylinder and and cylinder nets.

Here is a example picture of a cylinder net..

There are alot of ways how to make a cylinder shape.. if theres alot of ways how to make cylinder shapes then there should be alot of different ways how to make a cylinder net too! here is another example picture of a cylinder net..

alright now that you know how to make a cylinder net I will show you the formula of the cylinder..

The formula is..

S.A.=2π r^2 + 2π r h

another way to get the surface area is ..

C=πd=2π r h

here is one of the homeworks for the weekend that Mr Backé  gave us..

Today we worked in the computer lab, Creating shapes using NLVM and drawing them when we were finished. We also had a multiple choice question sheet on deconstruction squares.


Some of thing we had to do was get the smallest surface area, and getting the highest and some asked us for a specific number.

Hey guys, Renz P. here bringing you the things we did this day..
Okay, so lets start...
Today Mr. Backe' asked us what we learned about Rotation Symmetry and we answered:
It has:

-Centre of Rotation
-Angle of Rotation
-Order of Rotation
-Fraction of a Rotation
-You have to turn it Clockwise and Counterclockwise
-And a full turn is 360°.

He also asked us "What is a Circumference?".





And "How do we get the diameter and the radius of a circle?"
Here is the formula:

Diameter[D] = C ÷
π
Radius[R]= D ÷ 2





By the way, here's the Formula of a Rectangular Prism we did today..

Ok, scribe post. Today in class we did some more work with surface area. For homework yesterday we had to cut out a cube and find the formula for the surface area of it. So in class we decided that the formula for a 3 by 3 by 3 Cube was












My PC just froze so I switched to my brothers Mac and it doesn't have paint so this is the best I can do. This is my way of doing it.


S.A = 6s squared

S.A = (6) (9u squared)
S.A = 54u squared

Anyway the Homework for today was to make a net for a rectangular prism that is
4u x 3u x 2u
and to figure out it's surface area.

Today in math class we learned about surface area and planes of symmetry.

We Learned that a rectangular prism has 3 planes of symmetry and that a cube has 5 plane of symmetry. We also learned that a plane of symmetry is like a line of symmety that cuts a 3D shape in half.

Another thing we learned about was surface area. Surface area is the sum of the areas of all the faces. We learned that the formula for the surface area of a rectangular prism is SA=2(lh)+2(lw)+2(wh) and the formula for the surface area of a cube SA=6s(squared).

For homework we had to find the surface area of the cube we made in class.

Today in math we didn't do much but we did do the Math test. It wasnt that hard but its not that easy either because of the part where you have to be very specific. but all in all it was and okay test.

Some of the things that was on the test was:

  • A question about angle of rotation
  • A question about the line of symmetry
  • A queston about rotation symmetry
  • A question about line symmetry

And many more.....

I didnt write this till the end of friday because i was going to put some info about the test and I didnt want to let the cat out of the bag too early.

Since we did not have to or did much in friday i have to cut the post short so thats it.
